Meet Your Remodel Team: The Professionals Behind Your Project

So, the time has come to remodel your home. If, like many homeowners, you choose to work with a design-build firm, you'll have a team of professionals guiding you through both the design and construction of your remodel.

This article introduces the Lamont team members you'll encounter throughout your remodel journey. You’ll learn about their roles, responsibilities, and how they help transform your house into a home that's uniquely yours.

Design Team

Design Consultant: Your Guide and Advocate

The first person you’ll likely meet is a design consultant. This person will serve as your main point of contact throughout the design process, advocating for your needs and goals.

Design consultants help define:

  • Scope – Understanding which spaces you want to remodel and how extensively.

  • Budget – Establishing realistic financial parameters.

  • Vision – Translating your style, preferences, and priorities into a feasible design plan.

They work closely with you to ensure the remodel aligns with your expectations, goals, and investment.

They're the people who will answer questions like:

  • "Can we remove that wall?"
  • "Can we raise the ceiling height in our basement?"
  • "How much will this project cost?"

Designer: Turning Ideas into Plans

Shortly after beginning your project, you’ll meet your Designer. These team members have a background in interior design and bring their own unique style to your project. Making countless choices about fixtures, colors, and lighting—and ensuring they work well together—can be overwhelming. Your designer has expertise to help your vision become reality.

In addition to their guidance in all things design, they'll also create 3D renderings of your new space so you can see the finished product before the build begins. Their role balances design creativity with functional precision, ensuring your remodel both looks and works the way you envision.

Because we're also the build team for the project - and our design and build teams work closely together on every single project we do - your designer is going to be grounded in reality. They're not going to design an amazing looking space that won't work for your home, or cause builders to bend over backwards to realize their vision. This is key to creating a build phase that finishes on time and under budget. We begin with the end in mind.

Build Team

Project Manager: Planning and Oversight

Even before construction begins, your Project Manager is involved—working closely with the design team to estimate costs and plan the schedule.

Once construction starts, their job is to:

  • Coordinate logistics and staffing.

  • Monitor timelines and budgets.

  • Serve as a liaison between the design and build teams.

They often oversee several projects at once and will visit your site periodically to ensure everything is running smoothly.

Remodel Superintendent

The Remodel Superintendent is the team member you'll interact with on a daily basis during the build phase of your project. They're both project managers and builders, and they're completely dedicated to your remodel. They're not juggling jobs and running from site to site, and they're not difficult to get ahold of.

Here's what this looks like: if Zeb if your superintendent, he'll show up every day to work on your home. He'll keep you up to date on the progress of your project and pull you in if he runs into any issues. Our superintendents build strong relationships with clients and any homeowners come to see their superintendent as an essential partner—someone they trust for updates, quality assurance, and guidance throughout construction.

Depending on the scope of your remodel, the remodel superintendent will pull in 1-2 other team members to support the work. This consistent team works on your home from start to finish, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship and a deep understanding of your space and preferences.

"Our family couldn’t be happier with our bathroom remodel by Lamont Bros. Zeb and the whole team were great to work with. They really listened to our ideas for an unusual teakwood bath and gave us expert advice throughout the design process. Kerry and Julie, our project and design managers, kept us updated every step of the way and were quick to answer any questions. Zeb’s craftsmanship and attention to detail show in every part of the finished space, and it’s appreciated daily by the entire family."

Specialized Support

Licensed Trade Specialists

When your remodel requires specific licensed work—such as electrical rewiring, HVAC changes, or complex plumbing—we bring in vetted specialists. These professionals coordinate with our team and are introduced early in the process to ensure a smooth integration.

Engineering and Structural Consultants

For major structural changes, our designers and builders collaborate with licensed engineers. While you may never meet these behind-the-scenes experts, their input ensures your remodel remains safe and sound—both during and after construction.

Municipal Inspections

For projects requiring permits, municipal inspections ensure your remodel complies with all building codes. In Portland, we may work with a dedicated inspector through the FIR (Field Issuance Remodel) Program, offering consistency and smoother inspections.
