A NW Ranch Reimagined in Lake Oswego, OR
The homeowners in Lake Oswego's Glenmorrie neighborhood wanted their house to carry the colors and feeling of the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon, places they return to and love. Their home is a daylight ranch built in 1963, and we used the canyon vision as the starting point for a whole-home remodel reaching the kitchen, primary suite, entry, stairs, and dining room, along with new windows, siding, and exterior finishes. The goal was a home that feels warm and grounded rather than bright and sterile, with a palette built around sandstone, terracotta, warm browns, and muted blues.

Project Goals
The guiding vision was a home shaped by the colors and character of the Colorado River and Grand Canyon, warm and welcoming rather than stark. Mid-century modern design mattered deeply to the homeowners, who came to the project with a real appreciation for its clean lines and connection to the outdoors, and they wanted to translate that into a Northwest Modern look rooted in natural elements and green tones. The home needed to feel clean but warm, with matte textures, organic curves, and soft lines, calm and comfortable throughout. They also wanted to open up the dining room walls to take full advantage of the view, strengthening the home's connection to its surroundings.
Color and texture sat at the center of the brief. The palette was drawn from Colorado's natural landscapes and sunsets, including sandstone, red rocks, terracotta, deep oranges, muted blues, warm browns, and cliffside reds, with green woven throughout as a tie to the natural setting. There was no place for flat whites; color needed to be intentional, rich, and varied, with natural shading from one surface to the next. Texture mattered just as much, from matte finishes to layered materials and soft, tactile surfaces, keeping every space practical while staying true to materials rooted in nature.
Unique Features
- We built the kitchen and primary bath cabinetry from Knight custom Micro Shaker doors in walnut with a clear natural finish, which carries the warm brown tone through both spaces.
- Matte Dekton countertops tie the home together, with Sasea in the kitchen and Nilium in the primary bath, both chosen for their low sheen and natural variation.
- A green undulated hexagon tile from Daltile's Mesmerist line forms the kitchen backsplash and brings in the muted, nature-drawn color the homeowners were after.
- In the primary bath, we set Bedrosians Sahara matte porcelain in a soft rose across the floor and shower, then finished the space with Brizo Invari fixtures in Luxe Nickel and a custom clear-glass shower enclosure.
- Three Velux skylights with integrated solar shades bring daylight into the primary bath and entry without giving up privacy.
- The staircase combines a walnut handrail with a stainless steel Feeney cable rail system and a Mohawk runner, keeping the open feel while adding warmth underfoot.
