1950s SW Portland Whole Home Remodel

This SW Portland whole home remodel created more usable space in a 1950s Portland home.

Before the remodel, this home had the right location and plenty of room, but the layout felt disconnected and outdated.

Tight pathways, a closed-off kitchen, and an awkward basement stair placement made everyday routines feel harder than they should.

This whole home remodel was about creating flow: opening up the main living areas, rethinking how spaces connect, and bringing warmth and cohesion to every corner of the home.

From a reimagined kitchen to improved bathroom functionality and a refreshed lower level, every decision was guided by how the home could better support daily life.

The result is a home that feels intuitive, welcoming, and ready to evolve with them for years to come.

Unique Features

This project stands out not because of one dramatic change, but because of how every detail works together to improve daily life.

A Kitchen Designed for Flow and Connection
The new kitchen layout prioritizes movement and usability, with clear work zones, improved storage, and a visual connection to adjacent living spaces. A soft green cabinetry palette paired with warm wood tones brings a distinctly Pacific Northwest feel.

Reimagined Circulation Throughout the Home
By relocating the basement stairs and opening up walls, the home is now easier to move through. What was once segmented and awkward is now cohesive and easy to navigate.

Cohesive Finishes from Room to Room
New flooring and consistent material selections unify the home, eliminating the patchwork feel that often comes with older remodels. The result is a continuous experience from entry to living spaces to private areas.

A Bathroom That Balances Function and Comfort
Updated layouts and modern finishes transform the bathroom into an updated space with improved storage.

A Laundry Room That Actually Works
The laundry space was redesigned with cabinetry, counter space, and better organization, turning a problem area into a functional extension of the home.
