A Historic 1911 Kitchen Project in Oregon City

The owner of this historic 1911 home in Oregon City decided to remodel her kitchen a second time, after an earlier renovation by a different contractor left her with a space that did not work. This time she chose Lamont Bros. Design & Construction, a design-build firm that could handle both the design and the construction under one roof.

Project Goals

The aim of this Oregon City kitchen remodel was to create a more usable space that would continue to serve the homeowner well as she ages. Our team worked through several layout and functionality problems at once. We rearranged the appliance locations for better efficiency, moving the microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator into new positions that made daily tasks easier. Because the homeowner is shorter in stature, we installed custom-height cabinetry and added drawer-style dishwasher and microwave units so that everything sits within comfortable reach.

Unique Features

  • Custom cabinetry built to the homeowner's height keeps daily essentials easy to reach and improves organization throughout the kitchen.
  • Drawer-style dishwasher and microwave units replace overhead and bend-down appliances, making the space more accessible for everyday use.
  • Floating shelves add open storage and visual interest while keeping the historic room feeling light.
  • A custom breakfast nook tucked into the kitchen corner creates a comfortable spot to sit and gather.
  • Dekton sintered stone countertops bring a durable, low-maintenance work surface, paired with a new tile backsplash that updates the room's overall look.

The remodel turned a previously intimidating and difficult space into a kitchen tailored to the homeowner's needs and personal style. Every appliance and shelf now sits within comfortable reach, and the result is a kitchen that truly works for her.
